Accepting Payments with PC-based Payment Software

If you are not familiar with accepting payments with a PC-based Payment Software, this page will give you a basic understanding of what is involved.

What is PC-based Payment Software?

PC-based payment software allows you to process payments through your computer.  Most payment software usually allows you to process multiple types of electronic payments real-time or offline.  The key difference is you are leveraging an existing investment - your PC.  You print receipts directly from any printer.  Some payment software connects to the payment network through dial-up, the Internet, or gives you options for both.

Some Advantages of using PC-based Payment Software

Transactions are processed in a more intuitive and user-friendly method using your PC.  Great for a simple billing system.  You can accept all the payment types available to a static terminal.  Your sales information is consolidated in one place and easy to access.  No special paper or ink required, you print receipts directly from your computer.  Real-time reporting of transactions in a single place.  Allows single or mutiple user access.  If you have a mobile computer and a connection at your point-of-sale, you can virtually process payments anywhere.

Some Disadvantages of using PC-based Payment Software

Like with anything, PC-based payment software does have its own share of tradeoffs.  You have software to install.  Software is subject to licensing and upgrade fees, commonly per user or per computer.  You are responsible for backups of your sales transactions.  To process sales, you need to be near your computer and be able to connect to the payment network for sales.
